Obituary for Ronald L. King

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ronald L. King, after a courageous battle with cancer, on July 29, 2010 He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, of 54 years; sons, Michael (Sheila) of Edmonton, Stephen (Stephanie) of Calgary, daughter-in-law, Linda of Calgary; one sister, Lorraine (Bill) of Puddle Bay, Nova Scotia. He also leaves to mourn his grandchildren, Shaun, Dana, Jaden, Danai, Emma, Iain; one step-grandchild, MacKenzie; sisters-in-law, Carole (John), Beth; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by a beloved son, David in 2007; his parents, Melford and Dorothy; one sister, Marian. Ron was born and raised in Brooklyn, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia. He was married in July of 1956 and joined the army in September of 1956. He served 37 years in the military as a welder and bodyman with R.C.E.M.E. He served tours of duty in Germany and northern Canada and with the U.N. in Cyprus. He retired in 1983 and went to work with the civil service in Camp Wainwright as a welder. He retired from there in 1998. Ron loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He had a love of life and infectious sense of play that always put a smile on his face and all others he touched. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Wainwright Branch and served for many years as the Sargeant.-at-arms. He also spent many hours playing darts at the Legion and enjoyed every minute of it.
